Amitabh Bachchan reacts to MNS chief's verbal attack

Mumbai: Close on the heels of repeated verbal assaults by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief, Raj Thackeray, Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan today said that it is his fundamental right to live anywhere in the country. Addressing a press conference in Mumbai the legendary actor said, “The Indian Constitution has given me the right to live anywhere in the country. Everybody has a right to the freedom of speech, but I only follow the law of the land.” This is the first time that Bachchan came out publicly against Raj Thackeray ever since the latter targeted him for being more loyal to his home state, Uttar Pradesh, rather than Maharashtra, where he has been residing for over 40 years. Upholding the individual's liberty of free speech the actor said, "My responsibility is to follow the law of the country, follow the constitution of this country and follow my conscience therefore I will respect the court, the constitution and will respect my conscience and beyond this there is no place for anything else." Earlier on Thursday, the MNS leader had stepped up its attack on Bachchan, this time indirectly through a poster, mocking at him for going back on his decision to donate his agricultural land to farmers in Pune. When asked to comment on the Lonavala land issue, Bachchan said, "The case is subjudiced and I cannot talk about it."
