BJP dares Left to withdraw support from UPA

Bangalore: The Bharatiya Janata Party today slammed the Left parties for remaining silent over price rise issue "despite inflation and farmers' suicides" and dared the communist parties to withdraw support to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government on the issue.

"How long do the Left want people to suffer on account of incompetent, irresponsible and ineffective government," questioned the senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu.
The Left, which has taken credit for stalling the Indo-US nuclear deal, should try to use the same political influence, which they claimed they exerted on the UPA government, to bring down prices and inflation and to provide incentives to farmers, Naidu said.

Referring to the plans of the Communist Party of India- Marxist (CPI-M) to hold nationwide protests if the government fails to take steps to bring down prices by April 15, Naidu questioned, "Why are you holding a demonstration and against whom? Who are you trying to fool?"
Giving Suggestion to the left parties, Naidu said, “Do not demonstrate outside, demonstrate your political will inside the House." He added that the government was surviving on the support of the left and if the left have such conviction, it could withdraw its support.

Naidu also attacked the Left for its plans to forge a third front. "The Left was attempting to put its foot on both fronts. It was supporting the UPA government and yet talking about forging a third front. It is a case of double speak, double standards by the left," he said.
Hitting out at the Congress, he said that in 10 out of the 12 state Assembly elections held recently, the Congress had "been punished" by the people except in Goa and Arunachal Pradesh. "The Congress should be ready for its 11th political beating, now in Karnataka," he said.

"There is almost a chaos on the agricultural front even after announcement of loan waiver for farmers and packages," Naidu said, adding that suicide cases continued to be reported from states like Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.
He said inflation had reached 6.8 per cent in recent days. Wholesale price index and retail prices were going up. "The balloon of UPA post budget propaganda has suffered total deflation due to record rise in inflation rate," he said.

Informing about the BJP?s future steps , Naidu said, “The BJP would take on the government both on the streets and in Parliament. It would hold a countrywide agitation from April 7-14 against price rise and betrayal of the common man by the UPA. The party would hold 'kisan adalats' throughout the country in the following months to discuss the crisis in the agrarian sector."
