Cong not averse to tie-up with either SP or BSP
Kanpur: The Congress on Monday said that it was not averse to a tie-up with either the Samajwadi Party (SP) or the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) to stop the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
"To strengthen the Congress and stop communal forces, we can tie-up with any secular party, be it SP or BSP. We are not averse to anyone," its general secretary and state incharge Digvijay Singh said to the media in the city on the concluding day of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) regional convention.
On strengthening the party, Singh said that the doors of the Congress have always been open and will remain open for political parties fighting communalism, be it then the SP or BSP.
There is no harm in aligning with the SP or BSP, if they strongly fight against "communal forces", Singh said. Minister of State for Home, Sriprakash Jaiswal, said that the party's first priority was to strengthen its organisation.
"The Samajwadi Party supported us earlier and the Congress has supported the SP," Jaiswal said. "We have no fight against the SP, only ideological differences. The decision on any tie-up will be decided by the party high command," he said. (PTI)
