Terming high rate of inflation as a result of "economic mismanagement" of the country, BJP national spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "Congress' comment that states are equally responsible for high inflation is not only laughable but is the height of political bankruptcy." Criticising the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) for failing to keep the prices under control, Prasad said, "This spurt in inflation is the result of ill-conceived indifference of government and complete lack of systematic response towards economic reality of the country." At the same time, as a veiled response to Sonia Gandhi's allegation made while addressing a public rally in Dungarpur in Rajasthan that former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee did not have faith in his Cabinet, Prasad said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Cabinet lack cohesion on the matter of inflation at a very critical juncture. The former union minister said, "On price rise a very curious blame game is going on in the Cabinet. Commerce Minister is blaming the Food Minister whereas the Railway Minister blames Steel and Fertilisers Minister for increase in prices. This shows total lack of cohesion in the government and the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has not been able to control his Cabinet at this critical juncture.”
