Sources said that last night around 9 pm a bus, titled 'Discovery', running at a very high speed from Bogula collided with a lorry coming from the opposite direction before hitting a roadside tree at Jugpur-Laxmipara village on NH-34, about 20 kilometers away from the town. The driver and a support staff of the vehicle died on the spot. Before the Nakashipara police reached the spot the victims were rescued by some locals. The injured passengers mostly include residents of Siliguri and Coochbehar. The passengers were rushed to Bethuadahari hospital and according to primary reports the condition of two children are stated to be critical and they were transferred to Shaktinagar district hospital in Krishnanagar. Nakashipara police officer-in-charge Pintu Saha said that the number of casualties may increase, as conditions of some passengers are very critical. It must be recalled that last year External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee was seriously injured after a lorry hit his car in this area while he was returning from his constituency Berhampur.
