Fire at printing press in Kolkata

A fire broke out in a printing press at Canal South Road in the eastern part of Kolkata on Friday. Ten fire tenders were on the job to douse the flames, police said. The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained

A fire broke out in a printing press at Canal South Road in the eastern part of Kolkata on Friday. Ten fire tenders were on the job to douse the flames, police said. The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, the police said. The fire led toa traffic snarl inconveniencing office-goers. The press is located in a residential area, however, no word on any casualties came in.
 
This is the fourth incident in the past few months, which has spurred the locals to raise their voice against the government, who according to them are not doing much to control such major fire incidents in the city.

Past incidents of major fire breakouts in Kolkata:

This not the first time fire has broken out in the city of joy -- Kolkata. There have been numerous incidents of similar breakouts in the city over the past few months. In April 2008, a major fire broke out in Kolkata's Burrabazar, destroying Asia's biggest flower market. The incident saw over 200 shops being gutted and locals blamed the government for not doing enough to control such fire incidents.

In March 2008, a major fire broke out at a leather factory in the heart of the Kolkata city. Over 20 fire tenders were called in to fight the fire, which threatened to engulf the leather factory at Radhanath Chowdhury Road in Tangra, an industrial estate that has several manufacturing units.

In January 2008, a major fire broke out iin Kolkata's Burrabazar that housed several buildings housing tarpaulin and cloth shops. Property worth crores was reportedly damaged in the fire, though no casualties have been reported so far.
