Houses torched in Nandigram
NANDIGRAM: The houses of 10 Trinamool Congress supporters were torched in Nandigram on Thursday evening. Trinamool men claimed that CPM cadres had set fire to their homes following a clash between the two sides on Wednesday.
Around 50 armed men raided Amratola village near Nandigram’s Khodambari around 8.30 pm. They targeted the house of Badal Singh, a Trinamool supporter, and burnt the homes of 10 members of the Singh family. CRPF and policemen went to the area later to investigate.
Trinamool workers said the raid was a retaliatory attack. They alleged CPM cadres had warned them not to approach police after Wednesday’s clash but they still went ahead and lodged a complaint.
Police confirmed that houses had been torched but said no complaint had been lodged. Mahadeb Bag, Trinamool Congress secretary of Nandigram, said no one had gone to the police as party workers were busy putting out the fire.
