Rains ruined R Day celebrations in Kolkata

Kolkata : Heavy rains marred the official Republic Day celebrations here Saturday, but the military personnel nevertheless went ahead with their grand parade.`
Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi took the salute at the Red Road. Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, cabinet ministers, officials and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
The scheduled march past by students and display of tableaux, an essential part of the celebration, was curtailed because of the inclement weather.
Leading the parade was Deputy General Officer Commanding (GOC) Brig. D.K. Ghosh. Twenty-nine personnel from the Military Police showcased their skills.
Four Indian Air Force helicopters showered flower petals on the spectators.
