SFI suffers second successive defeat at Jadavpur University
The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) suffered a major setback in Jadavpur University students’ election on Thursday. The defeat has assumed a major political significance in view of the fact that the university comes within the constituency of West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya. The SFI, students’ wing of the ruling CPI (M) in West Bengal, underwent the second successive defeat in two weeks.
The SFI suffered defeat against Forum for Arts Students (FAS) and Democratic Student Organisation (DSO) combine. The defeat demonstrated waning popularity of the SFI among the students and generation X in the state. Two week ago the SFI was defeated in the students’ election even at Presidency College in Kolkata.
The FAS and DSO combine mopped up their second successive victory at Jadavpur University after they had trounced the SFI last year.
