BSF to be approached for Panchayat polls in Nadia

To ensure proper security along the vast areas close to Indo-Bangladesh border in the district during the ensuing panchayat election, the Nadia district administration has decided to approach the Border security force for necessary help. Nadia district magistrate Onkar Singh Meena stated this during a media conference held at his chamber in the city today.

Nomination for the total 2720 seat in three tier panchayat polls would be started from April 9. “The nomination for the GP and panchayat samity seat would be received at the BDO offices while the nomination for the zilla parishad seats would be received at the SDO offices,” said Meena.

Concerned about maintaining law and order in vast areas of border which normally troublesome to access for different restrictions, the district administration has decided to approach BSF. Meena said, “Our aim is to have peaceful voting in the remotest corner of the district on May 14”

“The administration would also talk with the BSF authorities so that the media persons could make easy access in border areas not only during the poll but also during campaigning,” added Meena.

Meanwhile, following the appeal made by the leaders of different political parties, the administration has decided to seal the common riverine border with the Burdwan district where polling would be held a day before.
