Two govt officials commit suicide in West Bengal
With the suicide committed by two top officials of the West Bengal on Tuesday, the tormenting psychological impact of poor salary structure at state level has once again come into fore. The Police have registered two cases of suicide in different areas of the state. The cause for the death both officials has been registered as depression owing to low pay scale.
The first case was registered in Midnapore district, where a young Block Development Officer (BDO), Kallol Sur (35) hanged himself from the ceiling late evening. “Depression seems to be the cause of suicide,” a senior police officer said.
While the second incident occurred early afternoon on Tuesday in Birbhum district, where a Block Level Rural Officer was found dead at his residence. The preliminary investigation suggested that it was a case of suicide. The body of the deceased had been sent for postmortem.
