Centre approves the chemical hub at Nayachar

The centre on Tuesday approved the building of the proposed chemical hub in the Nayachar at Haldia in the Midnapore district. The state government had submitted the proposal for this chemical hub at Nayachar in 2007.

Post Nandigram, there were lot of controversies over this proposed chemical hub and a section of the populace protested over it as they felt that the inhabitants of Nayachar would be threatened by this action.

However the state government had gone ahead and submitted the proposal to Centre, which was approved by the ministry of fertilizer and chemical on Tuesday. Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat were also strong contenders for building up this chemical hub where a lot of top private investors are likely to invest. But the final verdict went in favour of West Bengal government.

“It is indeed a happy moment for us. We hope we will receive the necessary permission from other authorities like environmental ministry soon. We will go in full swing to establish the chemical hub in the state,” said the state minister for industry Nirupam Sen. This SEZ initiative is also expected to receive a lot of bids from international companies who are keen to invest in Bengal.
