Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute reopens on April 15

Kolkata: A meeting between Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi and authorities of Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute on Tuesday, has finalised the re-opening of the institute on April 15, 2008. The institute was closed past week following tension in the campus on the issue of sacking of 28 security gaurds of a security and detective company and hiring of new gaurds from another one.

Announcing the opening date of the institute, Dasmunsi said that it will start functioning on the first day of the Bengali calendar 'Baisakh' (Poila Baisakh).

Informing about the conclusions drawn at the meeting, the union minister said that political affair would be strictly prohibited in the campus of educational institutes like SRFTI, all the due ESI and PF of the employees must be cleared. Also, Dasmunsi added, the authority should arrange for some alternative job for the old employees in and around Kolkata.

The Central Ministry would request the Chief Minister of West Bengal to look after the matter and urge him to take steps so that law and order situation is maintained in such educational places, he added.

The meeting was attended by the chairman of SRFTI Buddhadeb Dasgupta and representatives of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) in Delhi with the I and B minister.

The local Member of Legislative Assembly Sri Sujan Chakroborty said that he will talk to the authority and old employees regarding this matter. He wished that the institute will be soon back on track and offered that if required he will also talk to the chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya.
