Road accident kills one at VIP Road in Kolkata

Baguiati: Last evening VIP road, Kolkata saw a tragic road accident when a Taxi ran over a pedestrian. Purna Roy, about 65 years of age was crossing the road at Narayantala College more of Baguiati area, a taxi came at a very high speed and ran over him and he died on the spot. Purna Roy worked as dhaki in a nearby temple of Baguiati area.

The incident excited the local mob who obstructed VIP road for about half an hour. A big battle of West Bengal Police came to control the situation. But as the situation was going sensitive Rapid Action Force (RAF) was reached the place. The road where the accident took place was the connector to the Airport. So, police had to control the situation to clear the road very quickly.
In the meanwhile, local mob gathered and showed protest against the state police department. The protestors said that this crossing is a very busy place. With night comes truck and other vehicles increases. But there are no sufficient traffic police to control. Signalling system is also very poor. So road accident has been a very regular and common feature on VIP road.
