"Two government officials were killed and two others and a civilian were injured," Khost province governor Arsla Jamal said. The blast was carried out by a Taliban suicide bomber and targeted the intelligence chief of Bak district, said a spokesperson for the militia, Zabi-hullah Mujahed. —AFP *** Turkey Army strikes rebels in north Iraq Ankara: Turkey’s military says its warplanes and artillery units have bombed and killed a large group of Kurdish rebels as they tried to infiltrate Turkey from northern Iraq. Military spokesperson Gen. Metin Gurak says the attack took place on Thursday. He did not give any specific location or an estimate of how many rebels had been killed. The offensive, announced on Friday, was the latest in a series of Turkish attacks against rebels in northern Iraq after the killing of 17 soldiers in a rebel raid a week ago. —AP *** Ship hijacked off Somali coast released Tehran: Pirates released an Iranian ship on Friday that had been hijacked off the Somali coast in August, state news agency IRNA reported. "The ship Dianat was released on Friday morning after seven weeks of negotiations with Somali pirates," the state-owned Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines said in statement carried by the agency. "All 29 members of the crew are safe and sound and the ship is sailing towards international waters," it said. Despite pleas by prosecutors for a seven-year jail sentence, the judges upheld a lower court ruling which had imposed a three-year prison term suspended for five years.
