The commander, targeted in a compound in the Sangin valley, was one of six killed in year 2007 by Special Air service regiment and Special Boat Service regiment of the British Army. When the British soldiers entered the compound they discovered a Pakistani military ID on the body. —ANI *** ‘Give up war on terror to restore peace’ Islamabad: Pakistan Jamaat-e-Islami chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad has said that until the government gives up supporting the US-led war on terror, peace can’t be restored in the country, reports our Pakistan correspondent. "The government should tell the US that it will not support its policies and cannot fight against its own people as it is their (US) war. Peace can only be restored in the country if the Army refused to own (US) war on terror," Mr Ahmed said. The JI chief said that he had refused to join in-camera briefing of Parliament. *** Opposition plans Arroyo impeachment Manila: Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s opponents said on Sunday they have prepared a new impeachment complaint against her over alleged corruption, vote-rigging and human rights violations despite three unsuccessful attempts in recent years. The new complaint consolidates previous and new allegations of corruption and constitutional violations against Ms Arroyo, said key complainant Jose de Venecia III. Mr Simon, 61, will replace outgoing Prime Minister Jorge del Castillo, who resigned on Friday along with Mr Garcia’s entire 13-member Cabinet in a bid to avert an Opposition censure resolution in Congress over an oil-industry kickback scandal. —AFP *** Serial attacks in Baghdad leave 13 dead Baghdad: A spate of attacks in the Iraqi capital on Sunday killed at least 13 people and wounded 24 others, including women and children, security officials said. In the deadliest attack at least nine people were killed and 13 wounded in a car bombing at a crowded market in Baghdad’s Bayaa district, a mainly Shia area in the southwest of the capital, the police said. Workers at Yarmouk hospital said women and children were among those wounded in the midday attack. Two policemen were also killed. —AFP
