Army kills 3 Tigers, captures bunkers

Oct. 23: Stepping up its offensive against Tamil Tigers in the embattled northern region’s Wan-ni area, Sri Lankan security forces killed three rebels and captured several LTTE bunkers.
"Counter terrorist offensives continued with military battling through stiff LTTE resistance and inter monsoonal rains at Wanni, as troops claimed seizing control-over several LTTE bunker overheads and trenches during Wednesday’s fighting," the defence ministry said.
According to Wanni security sources, the fighting raged between the troops and the LTTE in general area West of Akkaray-ankulama, Kilinochchi, Wednesday morning, as 57 Division troops stepped advances from its initial positions, East and West of the Akkarayankulama Tank bund. Subsequently, troops also recovered two decomposed bodies of Tigers. —PTI
