Nokia facility on expansion mode

Chennai, May 13: Nokia plans to scale up its operations at its Chennai-based telecom park even as its two component vendors would start production in next two months.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Mr Sachin Saxena, director, India operations, Nokia India said mechanics supplier Foxconn and LCD panel manufacturer Wintek would start production from June and July respectively.

While Aspocomp, which would produce printed wire boards, would also start production later this year.

Nokia Telecom Park hosts manufacturing plants of Nokia and its component manufacturers Jabil, Perlos and Salcomp.

The park provides emp-loyment to 15,000 people, out of which 8,000 people are employed at the Nokia plant.

Mr Saxena said the scaling up operations of the company would make it one of the biggest employment generators in the region. Nokia had invested $210 million in its manufacturing facility till December 2007.
