NTPC blames GE for Dabhol

New Delhi Sept. 11: State-run NTPC on Thursday held power equipment supplier GE responsible for under capacity utilisation at the Ratnagiri Gas and Power Pvt Ltd’s (RGPPL) power plant.

RGPPL, previously known as Dabhol project, is facing recurring technical problems. According to information available, there have been two major gas turbine failures during the past two years, resulting in frequent closures or under-capacity utilisation.

NTPC holds 28.33 per cent equity in the 2,150-MW Ratnagiri power project. "There were frequent blade failures at the Dabhol plant which were not envisaged. There was some problem with the equipment supplied by GE," said NTPC chairman and managing director, Mr R.S. Sharma on the sidelines of India Electricity 2008 on Thursday. — PTI
