Sept. 22: Reliance Power Limited, the flagship company of the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG), has submitted the mining plan for the Chhatrasal coal block that would supply the coal to the company’s 4,000 MW ultra mega power project (UMPP) at Sasan in Madhya Pradesh.
The Chhatrasal mining block is one of the three coal mines that would supply coal to the Sasan plant, the company spokesperson said. "The mine project will be developed in a strategic partnership with the North American Coal Corporation (NACC) that is the largest lignite coal producer and among the top ten coal producers in the US. Reliance Power plans to invest about Rs 2,500 crore to Rs 3,000 crore over a period of three years, to develop three coal mines to fuel its Sasan UMPP," he said.
The Sasan Power Limited (SPL), a fully owned subsidiary of Reliance Power, has about 750 million tonnes of coal reserves at Moher (capacity of 402 metric tonnes), Chhatrasal (150 metric tonnes) and Moher-Amlori Extension (198 metric tonnes), over an area of about 6,000 acre in and around the proposed power project, he added.
The ministry has already approved the mining plan for the Moher and Moher Amlori Extension coal blocks in June and is awaiting clearance from the ministry of environment and forests.
