India-Brazil-South Africa Summit on Wednesday
The financial crisis, which has gripped several developed countries, along with energy and food security will figure prominently at the India-Brazil-South Africa Summit being held in New Delhi on Wednesday.
The third trilateral Summit of the leading economies of three continents, to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Presidents of Brazil and South Africa is expected to come out with their collective ideas to meet the challenge posed by the financial crisis.
The three countries are expected to sign seven pacts and firm up an action plan in civil aviation sector to improve connectivity, which has been identified as a major hindrance in the path of boosting their trade and other ties.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and his South African counterpart Kgalema Motlanthe arrived here today to attend the Summit.
"The Summit will provide the leaders an opportunity to exchange views on issues of international and regional interest and concern to them," Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs Nalin Surie told reporters.
He said the leaders will discuss the financial crisis that has affected several countries.
"The Delhi Declaration (to be issued after the Summit) will have the joint views of the three leaders," Surie said.
The crisis, which erupted in the US, threatens many more nations, including India.
