David Gilmour's request to play at Glastonbury rejected

Michael Eavis, the organiser of Britain's Glastonbury music festival, has turned down a request by Pink Floyd's David Gilmour to play at the festival.
Thesun.co.uk reports Gilmour had personally contacted Eavis, wanting to sing at the event starting June 27 2008. But Eavis seems to be interested in encouraging the younger generation.
A source said, "Gilmour has always had a soft spot for Glastonbury. He's got a window in his touring plans and thought he'd contact Eavis about performing. And while Eavis was grateful for the offer, he turned it down. He wants the event to appeal to a younger generation and feels that Gilmour wouldn't."
Pink Floyd was to perform at the very first Glastonbury festival way back in 1970 but could not. The group is now disbanded.
