'Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic' is an unusual film: Kunal Kohli

Known for his penchant for romantic films, director Kunal Kohli, after giving superhits like Hum Tum and Fanna, is all set for next release Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic with his hit duo of Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukherjee under the Yash Raj banner.
"It is an unusual film about love, relationship and family.The film tells the story of four orphans whose custody is given to a lonely businessman ( Saif Ali Khan ). The kids hate Saif. They need love but there is none to love them. But then comes an angel ( Rani Mukherjee ) from heaven to help them. The only problem is that the angel doesn't know what love is," said the young director.
Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic (TPTM) is slated for release on June 27, 2008.
At a time when many films like Tashan,Aaja Nach Le, Laga Chunari Mein daag, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom by Yash Raj failed at box office, the movie by Kunal Kohli brings lot of expectations in the film circle.
"Those were Yash Raj's movies, not mine. And I am confident that audienece will like it like my previous two movies," says Kohli who has worked with the Yash Raj earlier in three movies, Mujhse Dosti Karoge, Hum Tum and Fanna.
Talking about his lucky mascot Saif and Rani, he said, "Saif excels if he is offered different roles. The experimentation of roles with Saif always turns out to be a success. It's a question of tapping his potential, which very few directors have done successfully in the past in films like Dil Chahata Hai, Parineeta or Omkara. And in this movie he will be seen in a different role."
“Rani is an actress with par excellence,” he added.
"It has got fantasy and reality. Working with children in the movie was a new experience for me. They are so talented and perform like seasoned actors. Children have performed like real Des ke Bacche," he said.
Kunal, who has co-produced TPTM with Yashraj Films, said that his movie is an entertaining film which would appeal to kids and the kids inside adults.
He further added that he has made the movie keeping in mind the kids’ choice.
"We don't make films for kids any more. Children are a tougher audience to please, as they don't want to see repetition of any character. So there was a challenge for me not to repeat anything similar in the movie,” Kunal said.
Kunal feels that the warmth and the coordination among characters plays a very important role in the entire process of movie making.
While praising lyricist Prasoon Joshi for writing some beautiful numbers in the film, he said, "He is in real sense raise the standard of the film. Industry has seen some of the great lyricists but Prasoon with his poetry brings a different look to the songs."
The music in the film is composed by the trio of Shankat, Ehsaan and Loy.
Even though Kunal has taken on production, direction remains his first love.
