Not only will the postman collect your letter, he will even carry stationery in case you fall short of stamps, envelopes and inland letter cards. This door to door service has been formulated for the West Bengal circle to make it more user-responsive. The main purpose behind this initiative is to get back the confidence of the majority who have switched to courier services because of the latter’s rapidness in delivering mail and other goods.H K Sharma, postmaster general (mail management) said that this is a competitive market and we have to constantly make advancement instead of sitting back and relaxing just because we are under the central government.He also declared that we have the infrastructure to provide better services than any courier company.Every postman in the 153 post offices in the city and 1600 others across the state have been given targets to achieve and these will be linked to their performances.The service will be advertised outside every post office to create awareness. The West Bengal circle targets a 15% growth in outgoing mail because of this pick up service.
