Dasmunshi thunders on Left's advocacy for third front

West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's proposal of an 'alternative alliance'or third front at centre, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunshi on Thursday said, “It may be one of their calculated speculation for which we are not at all concerned.”

Krishnanagar: Reacting to CPI (M) general secretary Prakash Karat and West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee proposal of an 'alternative alliance'or third front at centre, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunshi on Thursday said, “It may be one of their calculated speculation for which we are not at all concerned.” On Bhattacharjee apparent threat of withdrawal of support from UPA government Dasmunshi said, “The CPI (M) is welcome to do so, but should first check whether they would be able to afford it or not.”

Dasmunshi made this counterattack while speaking to media at Krishnanagar circuit house in Nadia before leaving for addressing election rallies. He also came down heavily on chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee for terming the Congress a 'feeble and sleeping force'. He said: “If the CPI (M) thinks that Congress is sleeping then why they do not raise a wake up alarm.”

Meanwhile, in a significant move Dasmunshi has called people to vote for candidates belonging to Left front allies like RSP and Forward Block, who raised voices against CPI (M) on issues like Nandigram and Singur. He said, “Anti-CPI (M) people should vote for RSP and FB candidates wherever Congress or Trinamool Congress or even Independent candidates are not available.” This is important to defeat the CPI (M), he said.

Justifying the point and refuting any alliance with any political party for panchayat poll he said, “In panchayat election no political party is actually concerned for legislative mechanism rather opts practical mechanism to defeat its opponents.

Dasmunshi also lambasted CPI (M) state chief Biman Bose's proposal on abolition of post of governor. “This could only be done through constitutional processes for which CPI (M) has to get enough strength to amend the constitution,” said Dasmunshi before addressing two election rallies in Nadia.
