Shivani Bhatnagar murder case: R K Sharma and 3 others convicted
In a murder trial which saw continuous changing of judges and witnesses turning hostile, a Delhi court today convicted R K Sharma and three others in the high profile Shivani Bhatnagar murder case. Shivani Bhatnagar, a Delhi based journalist was allegedly killed by some miscreants on directions of Sharma, an IPS officer, who wanted to detain some important documents of Prime Minister Office from her (Shivani's) possession.
The Delhi Police arrested Sharma in 2002 after a long hide out since his role came to light on charges of conspiring and murdering the scribe. Along with him, five other, namely - Sri Bhagwan, Satya Prakash and Pradeep Sharma were charged under Sections 302 and 120-B of Indian penal Code on March 5, 2008. According to the prosecution, Pradeep was hired for committing the crime. After more than six years since Sharma was arrested, Additional Session Judge Rajendra Kumar Shashtri had reserved his verdict for March 18, 2008. On January 23, 1999, Bhatnagar was found dead in her home at Navkunj Apartment of East Delhi. According to reports, the deceased had links with BJP's senior leader, late Pramod Mahajan.
