New Delhi: Giving hopes to the godhra riots victims who time and again have questioned the sincerity and intentions of Gujarat police in the investigation of the post Godhra riot cases, the Supreme Court today indicated that it will form a new special investigated team (SIT), which will further investigate the major cases of Gujarat riots. While hearing a petition of National Human Right Commission (NHRC), a three judge Bench comprising Justice Arijit Pasayat, Justice P Sathasivan and Justice Aftab Alam shared the opinion of the petitioner that the formation of another SIT (One SIT formed by the Gujarat government is already investigating into the matter) for further probe in Gujarat riots is the only way to ensure justice in the case. This SIT is likely to probe into the case and decide whether the related cases should be transferred to other state or not, and submit its report to the apex court within three months.   Although, the Bench today reserved its order on the matter for Wednesday, it suggested two names who would head the expected five member team. The Court recommended the names of R K Raghavan, a former CBI director and C V Satpathy, retired IPS officer Uttar pradesh-cadre to lead the team and asked the Gujarat government to give the other three names to complete the team.   Saving its skin over the matter, Gujarat government today expressed its contention to the petition of NHRC over the formation of new SIT team, the authorities recommended names of two non-Gujarati officers - Shivanand Jha and Ashish Bhatia, alongwith with Geeta Johri in order to maintain transparency in the probe. Shivanand Jha and Geeta Johri are the IG level officers, whereas Ashish Bhatia is a DIG level officer of Gujarat cadre.   Among ten major cases of riots which followed the Godhra carnage in 2002, for which petitions have been filed for independent probe, the apex court is likely to consider only seven cases including Godhra, Naroda patia, Naroda gram, Sardarpura, Gulbarg society, Deepla Darwaja and Ode.
