Mrs Gopa Dutta, president of West Bengal Higher Secondary Council told newsmen in the evening the recovered question papers were "fake". Acting on a tip-off, police raided a xerox-shop at Kalyani-B block in Nadia district and seized around 13 photocopies along with the "original" second language English paper last night. The second language English examination is scheduled to be held on 13 March. Police found the shop-owner Mr Pranotosh Mondol photocopying a question paper that appeared to be the original question paper of the forthcoming Higher Secondary examination and arrested him. Mr Mondol was produced before the Kalyani assistant chief judicial magistrate Mr SM Azad’s court today and was remanded in police custody for seven days. When contacted, Mr Hari Kishore Kusumakar, superintendent of police, Nadia said, “We are not authorised to say whether the seized question paper is original or not. We have informed the council president as only they are entitled to confirm the leak." Meanwhile, three council officials reached Kalyani this afternoon and collected the seized question papers from the police. During their visit to Kalyani, a council official said, “We will take the question papers to office which will then be verified with the original question paper. If it matches with the original paper, the council will announce it.” It may be recalled here that in 2005, the council had to cancel biology first paper, a day after reports reached of a leak at an examination centre in Purulia. According to the norm, council dispatches the question papers to the respective police stations in districts a week before the commencement of the examination.
