Mob strips 2 boys for killing birds
By NARAYAN BARETH
Jaipur, May 11: A mob thrashed two boys of the nomadic community, stripping and parading them in full public view in Beawar town of Ajmer because they had been found killing birds. The mob also trimmed their hair and burnt their clothes. The police has arrested two persons after the local media raised the issue.
"We have questioned half-a-dozen people in this connection but only two of them have been arrested so far. Investigation is going on," said Mr Rahul Prakash, officer in-charge of Bewar’s Sadar police station.
The incident occurred on Friday when Vinod (10) and Sagar (8) were allegedly busy with throwing stones by using "gulel" to kill birds. It annoyed the locals, who decided to teach a lesson to the boys. The mob tonsured their heads, stripped them and forced them to parade in front of everyone.
The boys pleaded innocence, saying their family had no source of income. However, it could not calm the mob.
Though the incident occurred in broad daylight and a good number of passersby gathered there to watch the incident, no one informed police.
The mob claimed that six birds were recovered from the boys. The police had registered a case of beating and humiliating the boys when Vinod’s father Kantilal Kanjar lodged an FIR. Sagar, belonging to the Sansi community, moved to his relatives’ house after the incident while his family fled.
