Centre wants stay on quota vacated

New Delhi, May 15: The Centre on Thursday moved the Supreme Court seeking vacation of the Calcutta high court order staying the implementation of 27 per cent quota for OBCs in post-graduate courses in IIMs.

In a petition, the government sought stay of all proceedings in various high courts relating to the implementation of the OBC quota in Central educational institutions and for transferring them to the apex court.

The petition was filed after Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishanan allowed the plea of solicitor general G. E. Vahanvati for listing the matter for hearing on Friday in the mentioning list.

Petitions have been filed in the high courts of Delhi, Calcutta and Bombay against the HRD ministry’s memorandum for implementing the quota rule. (PTI)
