Hurriyat team to visit Pak in June: Mirwaiz
Srinagar, May 19: Hurriyat Conference leaders will visit Pakistan in June for talks following an invitation extended by the new government, the moderate faction of the amalgam said here on Monday.
"Hurriyat Conference has been invited by the Pakistan foreign ministry for talks next month," chairman of the moderate faction of the Hurriyat, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said. The invitation was received on Sunday and an Hurriyat delegation would visit Pakistan in second or third week of June for talks on Kashmir, he told a seminar here. "We are for talks, be it with India or Pakistan. The interest of people of Jammu and Kashmir is uppermost in our minds," Mr Farooq said.
He said that the talks should not be for the sake of talks and should aim at resolving the Kashmir issue. Addressing the seminar, former Hurriyat chairman Abdul Gani Bhat asked all separatists and mainstream politicians to devise a common strategy for resolution of the Kashmir issue.
"If these people (mainstream politicians) are serious about resolving the Kashmir issue, let us come together and work out a common strategy," he said. (PTI)
