Family-disowned man ends life

Mumbai, May 20: A 23-year-old man from Madhya Pradesh committed suicide by shooting himself at a lodge in Mumbai Central on Tuesday. When the police contacted the youth’s family in MP, his mother said that he ran away from home with Rs 1 lakh and that the family had disowned him since.
A police team has now been dispatched to MP to find out why the youth took the extreme step as the family did not cooperate with the police.
Yogesh Ramji Tiwari (23) shot himself with an imported England-made pistol near his right ear and was found lying in a pool of blood by the staff of Delight guest house in Mumbai Central.
"Tiwari had checked into the guest house on May 14 and had paid Rs 2,000 as an advance. The rent of the guest house was Rs 350 per day. The staff told us that Tiwari hardly went out of the guest house and the only time he went out was to have food at a nearby restaurant," said inspector Nishikant Patil of the Nagpada police station.
According to Mr Patil, on May 19, Tiwari had ordered for dal rice from the guest house at around 4.30 pm, instead of going out for food. On May 20, at around 8.30 am when a staff knocked on his room, Tiwari did not respond. It was then that the manager was called. He climbed up a stool and saw Tiwari lying in a pool of blood through the ventilator.
"We recovered an England-made pistol from the spot. There were three 7.65 calibre bullets in the magazine. Twelve other live cartridges were recovered from his bag. We also found a Class 12 pass-certificate, his domicile certificate and a photocopy of his PAN card, a copy that he had given to the guest house as proof of his identity," said senior inspector Jaiwant Shelar.
The police also found two Mumbai numbers written in a piece of paper from Tiwari’s room. "One number could not be reached while no one picked up the other one. We also found a half-drunk liquor bottle from his room," Mr Shelar said.
Surprisingly, there was no cash found in Tiwari’s room. "We found two addresses from his telephone bills, one of Jabalpur and the other of Bhopal. However, there was no SIM card in his cellphone. When we contacted his mother’s number in Bhopal, she said that Tiwari had left his home after stealing Rs 1 lakh. The family refused to speak further saying that they had disowned their son," Mr Shelar said.
After speaking with the family for over six times on May 20, Tiwari’s maternal uncle Kailash Tripathy finally told the police in the evening that Tiwari’s father had left from Jabalpur in a train for Mumbai to take custody of his son’s body.
Meanwhile, his body has been sent for post-mortem to J.J. Hospital.
