Cong booklets to counter BJP

June 7: The Congress will bring out booklets to counter the negative political impact of inflation and fuel price hike ahead of elections. The literature explains to people the compulsions of the UPA government.
This was decided at the AICC’s publicity committee meeting held here on Saturday. Accordingly, the party will bring out four booklets to be distributed among the people as part of the communications strategy for the coming Assembly elections as well as the Lok Sabha polls.
Already reeling under a series of electoral defeats, the Congress is desperate to ensure that issues like inflation and fuel price hike do not affect its poll prospects further. It is also on the lookout for a more hard-hitting reply to the BJP‘s criticism of the party on the issue of internal security.
Four booklets — on petroleum price hike, inflation, internal security and farmers’ loan waiver — will be brought out by the party, AICC spokesperson Mohan Prakash said.
Meanwhile, the Future Challenges Group of the Congress began its deliberations on preparing a strategy for the states where elections are due as well as for the Lok Sabha polls.
The group, headed by M. Veerappa Moily and which also includes AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi, has already finalised its report on intra-party reforms and the next issue on its agenda is finetuning the party’s strategy for elections.
