Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr Yadav said that one lakh persons had been arrested in the country during Emergency. In Mayawati's regime, more than one lakh Samajwadi Party workers have already been arrested. During the Emergency, the families of arrested persons were never targeted but now even the families are not being spared," he said and added that the firing on students in Sefai in Etawah, earlier this year, was worse than the Jallianwala Bagh incident in terms of police atrocities. Mr Yadav mounted a blistering attack on the UP chief minister and said that as soon as Mayawati stepped out of power, she would have to go to jail. "This government is crossing all limits when it comes to political vendetta. The media has also been intimidated to such an extent that no one is willing to write the truth. However, after the Lok Sabha elections, the countdown will begin," he said. To a question on the Sahara-Mayawati fracas, Mr Yadav said the UP government had scant respect for the judiciary. "The action against Sahara will ensure that no industrialist invests in UP in future. I have seen how 20 top officials personally supervised the demolition in Sahara Shaher and we are making a list of officers who exceed their brief. All of them will face action after the change of guard in UP," he warned.
