July 4: In a bid to get the support of the Rajput community, Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje on Friday inducted prominent Rajput leader Devi Singh Bhati as a Cabinet minister. Governor S.K. Singh administered the oath of office to Mr Bhati at Raj Bhavan on Friday. The chief minister also appointed Bharatpur MP Vishvendra Singh as her political adviser, a Cabinet-rank post.
Party sources said that Mr Bhati has influence in Bikaner region while Mr Vishvendra Singh will help the party mobilise votes in eastern Rajasthan. Mr Bhati and Mr Singh have known to be detractors of Ms Raje in the past. The induction of Mr Bhati comes with the Rajasthan Jat Mahasabha deciding to back the Congress in the Assembly elections.
