Amarinder to be quizzed in DA case

Patiala, July 5: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau will interrogate former chief minister Capt. Amarinder Singh here on Sunday in connection with a disproportionate assets case.

The case was registered against Amarinder and his son Raninder on June 20 for allegedly amassing assets and wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income.

Capt. Singh, who has called the charges completely baseless, will face the interrogation to be held at circuit house in Patiala.

JD(U) MLA Dhananjay joins BSP

Lucknow, July 5: Dhananjay Singh, the lone JD (U) MLA in Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday, joined the Bahujan Samaj Party. Mr Singh had been elected on a JD (U) ticket from Rari assembly segment in Jaunpur district, reports our special correspondent.

Better known as a mafia don of sorts, Dhananjay Singh had been sent to jail in 2002, along with another independent MLA Raja Bhaiyya, by the then Mayawati government for allegedly fuelling the fire of revolt against the government.

He remained in jail for more than a year.

Meet for pvt. sector reservation

New York, July 5: Anguished over "low representation" of dalits and minorities in various walks of life in India, a number of delegates at an international conference here, demanded affirmative action for marginalised sections in the private sector of the country.

Speakers drawn from various sections of society, at the three-day Dalit and Minorities International Conference, made a strong demand for reservation in private sector through a legislation and quota in the sphere of judiciary.

TTE who pushed off boy held

Bhubaneswar, July 5: The Railway police on Saturday arrested Naveen Mishra, a train ticket examiner, on charges of pushing a boy out of a running compartment at Rourkela station in Orissa’s Sundergarh district two days back, reports our special correspondent.

Shankar Singh, 13, a rag picker lost his right hand and leg after he was pushed out of the Mumbai-Howrah Gitanjali Express on Wednesday. According to the police, he got a Rs 50 note while sweeping a compartment in the train, which the TTE claimed was his.
