July 5: The secular credentials of the UNPA took a hit with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leaders initiating its parleys with the BJP. Sources disclosed a day after the crucial UNPA meeting on July 3 that the AGP leaders rushed to the BJP to look at the options for electoral understandings.
Asked about the AGP’s move to inch towards the saffron forces, outfit chief Brindaban Goswami indicated that it was "open" to adjustments with the BJP in the forthcoming general elections.
For Mr Goswami, the Congress is a "communal outfit".
It was learnt that a six-member AGP delegation had met BJP leader Sushma Swaraj.
