Yechury led all-party delegation to visit Nepal

An all-party delegation led by Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury would visit Kathmandu next week at the invitation of the Nepal's new government.

The delegation, representing the India-Nepal Solidarity Committee (INSC), will attend the celebration in connection with taking over of the new republican government led by the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist).

Yechury is the convener of INSC. Late Harkishan Singh Surjeet was the chairman of the committee. The CPI-M had on Saturday congratulated Nepal's Maoist chief Pushpa Kamal Dahal, popularly known as Prachanda, on being elected as the first prime minister of the new Himalayan republic.

"We happily congratulate Dahal for being elected the prime minister of the republic of Nepal. This had to happen four months ago when the Maoist emerged as the single largest party," Yechury said.

The Maoist chief was elected on Friday as the first prime minister in post-monarchy Nepal as he swept a Constituent Assembly vote defeating his Nepali Congress rival and former premier Sher Bahadur Deuba.
