| This is for the second time that Albuquerque is facing suspension. In 2005, he came under the scanner for allegedly trying to show a murder as suicide. Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat said that action would be taken against erring police officers. Earlier, the authorities investigating British teenager Scarlett Keeling`s murder case claimed to have solved the mystery behind the British girl’s death on Thursday, after Samson D`Souza – the first person held in the case – confessed his role. According to reports, Samson D`Souza has also revealed the names of four others including drug dealer Placido Carvalho alias Shannaboy, who was arrested late night on Wednesday. Placido Carvalho, whose anticipatory bail was rejected by district and sessions court on Wednesday, has been charged with murder (Section 302 of IPC). Carvalho, known as Shanaboy in local circles, confessed that he overdosed and raped Scarlett. Placido Carvalho will appear in court on Thursday, where police will apply to detain him for questioning for 14 days. During the investigation, Carvalho had informed the Goa Police that he was at Louis shack till 2 am that night after which he went home. However, the eyewitnesses have confirmed that he was spotted roaming in the area till much late. The police remand application filed for the custody of prime accused Samson D`Souza says Shanaboy saw Samson and Scarlett in a compromising position in the wee hours of the morning. Carvalho`s arrest came almost 48 hours after Samson D`Souza, a 29-year-old bartender at a shack on Anjuna beach, was nabbed on the charge of raping Scarlett, a few hours before her semi-nude body was found on popular Anjuna beach on February 18. Samson and Carvalho are the two suspects from amongst a group of boys who were last seen with Scarlett on the fateful night. D`Souza’s confession comes shortly after the Goa Police claimed that its investigations have revealed that Scarlett Keeling died due to drug overdose and drowning in beach water. Meanwhile, the controversial doctor, who conducted the first autopsy on Scarlett Keeling’s body, has also accused the Goa Police of ignoring his finding that she could have been killed. Scarlett`s mother Fiona McKeon is reportedly unhappy over the latest breakthrough. McKeon has been demanding a CBI inquiry alleging that the Goa Police deliberately botched the investigations. Fiona further accuses the Goa Police and concerned authorities for still trying to cover up and feels that more facts needed to be brought out. On the other hand, Keeling`s advocate has raised suspicion that some influential people are likely to be involved in her murder. He has expressed doubts that Scarlett might have become a victim of power nexus. |
