Taking the string of war of words with the Congress party further, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Venkaiah Naidu today asked its political rival to refrain from making demeaning statements on Leader of Opposition L K Advani for "inefficient handling of terrorism related issues during National Democratic Alliance (NDA) rule".

New Delhi: Taking the string of war of words with the Congress party further, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Venkaiah Naidu today asked its political rival to refrain from making demeaning statements on Leader of Opposition L K Advani for "inefficient handling of terrorism related issues during National Democratic Alliance (NDA) rule".

Defending the former deputy prime minister and NDA regime, Naidu said that Advani was a proven leader and that NDA never compromised on dealing with terrorism.

Naidu, rather, attacked Congress party for fanning terrorism in the country. He said, "It is Congress party, whose policies created Bhindarawale, Kashmir problem including brutal terrorism, ULFA, LTTE in south India and Sri Lanka and promoted organisations like SIMI." He also accused Congress of funding and supplying arms to Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE) till 1980s.

Congress party had on Tuesday called Advani a "lame duck" and "the weakest and most shameful home minister India has ever had".

Reacting to the contents in the autobiographical book of Advani, 'My Country, My Life' and susequent interview of the BJP prime ministerial candidate with a private news channel, senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily said that "(L K) Advani remaining unaware of the then foreign minister escorting three dreaded terrorists to Kandahar in exchange for 161 passengers of the hijacked IC-814 plane only shows that he (Advani) did not enjoy trust of his coleagues."

Speaking at his residence in the national capital, Naidu also criticised Congress for calling Advani's Holi visit to the residences of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as "hypocrisy". He said, "This is Congress' way of perceiving things. For us they are political rivals and not enemies."
