Seven SIMI activists arrested in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: Seven activists of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI)
have been arrested on charges of providing assistance to their former chief
Safdar Nagori. The arrests were made early this morning from Unhel town near
Ujjain, which police said, was a major centre for SIMI activists to carryout
their anti-national plans.
Briefing to media in the state capital, Sub Divisional Police Officer, Sanjeev
Singh today informed that the arrested were identified as Jabil Parvez - brother
of Aamil Parvez who was held last week along with Aiyaz, Akbar, Irshad and
Mehruddin.
Out of seven, two SIMI activists were arrested on Sunday night from Indore,
Madhya Pradesh's commerical capital. “They have been identified as Abdul
Razzak and Rais Ahmed Khan. Both are criminals with past records and hail from
Indore,” the Police said.
On March 27, police had arrested 13 top SIMI activists, including Nagori from
the city's Shyam Nagar area. They have been charged with collecting arms with
intention of waging a war against the Indian Government and promoting enmity
between classes. Further, they have been booked under Sections 25 and 27 of the
Arms Act.
The radical outfit, which was set up in 1977, was proscribed in 2001 and Nagori
had been missing since then. It is often accused of having links with terror
outfits and involvement in anti-national activities. (PTI)
