Burney to visit tomorrow for release of Pak prisoners
Pakistani human rights activist Ansar Burney will visit India on Wednesday in a bid to persuade Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal to release Pakistani prisoners languishing in Indian jails. Burney said, "I would request the Indian government to release all such prisoners without delay and repatriate them back to Pakistan."
Karachi: Pakistani human rights activist Ansar Burney will visit India on Wednesday in a bid to persuade Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal to release Pakistani prisoners languishing in Indian jails. Burney said, "I would request the Indian government to release all such prisoners without delay and repatriate them back to Pakistan."
There are as many as 46 Pakistani prisoners alone in Indian Punjab jails who had completed their jail term but not yet released. During his visit, Burney is also expected to visit New Delhi and meet with senior members of the Indian Government and make request for the release of other Pakistani nationals lodged in prisons across India.
Burney is a former Pakistani minister and was elected unopposed to United Nation Human Rights Council's (UNHRC) Advisory Committee. He will be in India on an official visit on an invitation from Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
