And, this political plan of his is forcing him to reveal his cards one by one- be it, presenting the book to United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to officially creating the Kandahar controversy once again. After having finished his Holi-book diplomacy and seen the controversy arisen out of it fading away too soon, the former deputy prime minister today unveiled his "original motive" of writing the autobiographical book- to gain maximum possible advantage during forthcoming elections in states culminating in the Lok Sabha polls in 2009. Revealing the "hidden agenda" of his autobiography at the launch a website on his book at the party headquarters in the national capital, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha said, "It is the time to think about future. The main aim of this website is to tap the youth, to address the problems of youth and to try to gain maximum advantage during the elections by reaching out to the youth and popularising the ideology of the party." Till now Advani or any BJP leader for that matter has been dissociating the book from any future politics. One senior member of the party, who was a union minister during NDA regime even said only a few days ago that "there is no connection between the autobiographical book and party's attempt at projecting Advani as the prime ministerial candidate" because "Advani's stature is too big in Indian politics today." Clearing the Air But, with the launch of the website aiming at doing a massive propaganda in favour of Advani, all the airs of confusion about the objective of the book and timing of its release stand cleared. He minced no words in saying that this book was aimed at the younger generation, "who can learn a lot about politics from the book." He has thus laid to the rest all the suggestions that the book is a confession of an aging politician or that he thought of taking retirement. And, he has also answered the question about the timing of the release of the book. However, it seems that the BJP, which led the NDA government, has forgotten that the main cause of its defeat in 2004 elections was not the net savvy youth but the farmers, who were overlooked when their agriculture was suffering. Anyways the net surfing youth are not in great numbers in terms of votes in India. But, BJP leaders including Advani himself and party president Rajnath Singh are quite convinced that technology would fetch them enough votes to take the party "Iron Man" to the coveted office in the South Block. "There are mistakes in the book" Though Advani today preferred not to talk about Kandahar issue, whose ghost is troubling the party once again, he candidly confessed that there could be some flaws in the book. He also gave reference to one such mistake where he has mentioned veteran communist leader Satpal Dang as Late Satpal Dang. Apologising for the mistake, Advani said, "When I got to know about the mistake, I apologised by calling him up on telephone. But, there could be more mistakes in the book."
