The state capital today witnessed strong protest by at least 300 Tibetans in the Shanti Udayan against the violation of human rights in their country. Tibetans with tonsured head sat for a hunger strike seeking freedom in Tibet. “Our countrymen are living in misery, they are fighting every breath for our nation, for peace and for humanism, and today we are here to commemorate their courage and salute them with our self determinations,” said one of the protester sitting on the strike.

Bald heads with Tibetan flag painted on it and jerseys carrying the slogan of 'Free Tibet' was all evident at the Uddayan as the mass gathered under the Local Tibetan Solidarity Committee to ensure their gratitude for their countrymen who are fighting for the independence for the last 58 years against the capitalism of China.

“We hereby urge the international community to rethink about Tibet and we and our peace movement through out the planet will be in motive to awaken the world leaders to rise against the Chinese tortures and to resolve it through peaceful dialogues”, says Tenzin Ragba, member of Tibetan Solidarity Committee, Northeast.

Ragba further criticised the media ban and claimed that the deterioration in Tibet continues with media blackouts and communication blockage and it will keep the rest of the world unknown to the Chinese threat on Tibetans like the Lhasa incident. “The People in Tibet are in deep anguish and are extremely concern about the safety and security for their people,” said Ragba.

Joining the hands with the Tibet peace procession, local intellectuals and religious groups also roared for them and participated in the hunger strike today. Hiren Chakravorty, local literate said, “The crisis in Tibet is very much to the global concern as it is a killing of the human rights there.” He further expressed that China and the international community should raise a common voice for humanism.

Karma Yeshi, honorable Member of Tibetan Parliament also participated in the peace movement and hunger strike to encourage the demand of Free Tibet with the immediate dispatch of independent fact finding representatives to Tibet, lifting of Media ban and to stop the Chinese crackdown and give the medical help for Tibet.

The peace demonstrations will continue for the next two days. On Wednesday the Activists will be taking out the funeral rally against the Olympic torch relay which will be followed by a skit on Thursday in the city.
