Sangeeta Das was just 24 weeks pregnant when she went into labour at a leading Kolkata hospital. There was no doctor when she delivered the premature baby and she was told the child was stillborn. That was on 1st July. Now, she is all set to take her son home at Howrah.
"Durga Puja is nearby. Ma Durga has gifted my son back to my lap," she says. Her husband Manash Das explains why their son was named Arjun: "I want to call my son Arjun, because wherever he goes Arjun is always victorious." On July 1, eleven hours after the boy was born, the father had gone to collect the death certificate and discovered that the infant was alive. He was rushed to Calcutta Hospital that has advanced neo-natal facilities. Dr Kakoli Acharya of CMRI says, "I think it is by the grace of god, it is definitely a miracle. Because the child was very premature -- just 24 weeks and he was very very ill when he first came. With those factors combined, I am very happy he has come out." Sangeeta has big dreams for Arjun, who goes home Monday. She wants him to be a pilot in the Indian Air Force so that he can serve his country and explore not just world but also the skies. |
