Aug. 7: Buckingham Palace has denied a report claiming that Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, has received a "diagnosis of prostate cancer."
A report claiming that the 87-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth II had been diagnosed with prostate cancer in April, when he was hospitalised in King Edward VII Hospital in London, was published on Wednesday in the Evening Standard. At the time, the Buckingham Palace had said that Prince Philip was being treated for a chest infection. In a departure from norm, the Palace broke its rule of not commenting on any news about private lives of the royal family by issuing a strong denial of the report.
Calling the report a "serious breach of Prince Philip’s privacy," the Palace said.
