Brown to star in own TV channel
London, Aug. 7: Beleaguered British Prime Minister Gordon Brown is set to launch his own online TV channel in an attempt to boost his plunging poll ratings.
In a political effort to reach out to the public directly, Mr Brown will launch "Number10TV" within days. The channel will broadcast the Prime Minister’s views on latest political developments, speeches and public appearances. The TV channel, which is due to go live within days, will offer "exclusive video of the prime ministers speeches, press conferences, media appearances and news archives", Brightcove, the company providing the technology, was quoted as saying by the Mail online on Thursday.
Mr Brown and his ruling Labour Party are languishing in the opinion polls, having suffered defeats in three by-elections in as many months, as observers say the premier has time until the party’s annual conference in September to launch a fightback.
Accessible via the Downing Street website, "Number10TV" is an attempt to exploit the potential of the Internet to reach voters directly. "Were always looking at ways of improving and strengthening the website," a Downing Street spokesperson said.
He has been facing leadership challenges from within the party as polls over the last few months have shown his popularity hit historic low. —PTI
