US citizens work for India

July 6: In a telling example of reverse outsourcing, 12 top Indian companies have invested billions of dollars in the United States, creating more than 30,000 American jobs.
Some of India’s best-known companies — The Essar Group, Essel-Propack, HCL Technologies, ITC Kitchens of India, Jet Airways, Mahindra, Ranbaxy, Satyam, Tata Group, Thermax, Wipro and Wockhardt, USA – are making economic impact in the US.
According to an assessment by the US India Business Council (USIBC) and FICCI, Indian employers and their American workers contribute billions of dollars to federal, state and local coffers by way of wages, corporate taxes, payroll taxes and income taxes.
The ripple effects of these jobs and investments stimulate and enrich local economies nation-wide.
By far, the largest Indian company operating in the United States is the Tata Group.
It arrived in the United States in 1939 and has invested more than $3 billion in the US economy.
It had bought ‘Eight O’Clock Coffee’ for $220 million.
The Tata Group operates 16 businesses and employs 19,000 in America.
The report mentions that with a presence in nearly a dozen states, from Texas to Colorado, Arizona, Missouri, West Virginia, Florida, New York and New Jersey, Essar’s American operations generated more than $ 110 million in revenues last year.
Essar’s employee strength in the United States has zoomed from zero in 2000 to 7,200 today and expects to swell to 8,500 by 2009.
Fewer than 30 of its employees in the United States are Indian nationals; its US team is born and raised in USA.
HCL Technologies has helped developed safety and navigation equipment for Boeing’s new 787 "Dreamliner" jet aircraft. More over this company is in America since 1989, employs 3,000 in 21 US locations and serves clients in 200 US cities.
Jet Airways has purchased 72 airplanes from Boeing.
With 120 direct employees, the company, which has offices in New York, New Jersey and California and branch offices in Illinois and Texas, has paid out $36 million to the US market in total wages, taxes, and fees to airports.
Wipro Technologies, a renowned provider of integrated business technology, came to the United States in 1992, initially to help high-tech clients such as Cisco and Microsoft.
In nearly two decades, that the company has operated in the United States, it has created more than 8,000 jobs, 1,000 new jobs coming to Georgia and Michigan.
