Delhi signs pact with M'bourne to spruce its amenities
In order to facilitate best of civic amenities in the Capital in respect of the Commonwealth Games, scheduled to be held in October 2010, Delhi government has entered into a strategic city alliance with Australian city of Melbourne.
The Partnership is primarily aimed to share experiences in preparation and management of multi-disciplinary international sporting events, apart from having cooperation in the field of education, cultural activities, business, economy and promoting people-to-people contact.The agreement, which will be known as Delhi-Melbourne Strategic City Alliance Agreement, was inked today between the Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit and the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, John So.
Melbourne had hosted the 2006 version of the Commonwealth Games. Both parties agreed to exchange experiences of the 06' Gmaes, which ranges from sports activities, sports medicines, tourism, hospitality and cultural activities. The understanding can develop perspective capabilities for the mutual benefit of its people. Implementation of these activities will be in collaboration with relevant governmental and non-governmental partners.
The agreement will also pave way for establishing joint working group, with equal representation from each city, to develop an action plan for promoting co-operations. According to the agreement, both parties will nominate a senior officer to act as a key contact person for further initiatives that would be taken under its aegis.
The agreement will also fetch ways to share information on municipal planning, operational aspects, developing opportunities for cooperation regarding city amenities and city management.
Cooperation activities will commence when the required party considers it possible, and desirable to comply with the request. The joint working group will endorse a mutually agreed 'Three-year Plan', which will be reviewed on an annual basis.
