Super Kings beat Knight Riders by nine wickets
Chennai Super Kings registered a convincing nine-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders in the 11th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 cricket tournament at the M A Chidambaram stadium in Chennai today.
Chennai: Chennai Super Kings registered a convincing nine-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders in the 11th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 cricket tournament at the M A Chidambaram stadium in Chennai today.Chasing a target of 148, Super Kings romped home in 16.5 overs by scoring 152 while losing one wicket. Matthew Hayden was the top scorer with an unbeaten 70 while his skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni remained not out on 43 to guide the hosts to their third win in the tournament from as many matches.
Jacob Oram was adjudged the Man of the Match for his fine performance with the ball, who took three wickets in four overs with just giving 32 runs. Most importantly, Oram took the crucial wickets of Rickey Ponting and the danger-man Brendon McCullum in his second over itself at a crucial juncture as the Knight Riders were got off to a flying start with the scoreboard reading 32 in two overs.
The Knight Riders could never recovered from these early blows and wickets keep on falling. Muttaiah Muralitharan's (4 0 12 0) miser bowling only added to their woes.
This is the first defeat for the Knight Riders, who own their previous two matches, while the Super Kings are still unbeaten winning all their three matches of the tournament so far. (Inputs from IANS)
